More Splendid Sampler Blocks & Giveaway!

Yesterday, the 5oth block for the Splendid Sampler was released- there are 100 blocks, so just in case you’re not a math wizard, that means we are officially halfway through! I’ve gotten a few more Splendid Sampler blocks done… I am by no means caught up! I have 8 blocks done out of about 50 which have been released so far. But even if I don’t do another one, I think I could put together a cute “mini sampler” quilt. If you’re not caught up either, don’t sweat it, just take your time and enjoy the process. I designed a bonus block, called Summer Flip Floppin’, for The Splendid Sampler, and my other block will be released in November, so stay tuned!

I’m also doing a celebratory giveaway! Keep reading….

I thought I’d show you some of my most recent blocks. This one is block #32, The Constant Needle, designed by Laurie Simpson. Machine applique made this very quick and easy to do. And the style is so “me.”

Here is block #37, Dashing by Chocolate, designed by Laura Flynn. Anything involving chocolate is OK by me! I was wondering if those little Flying Geese units would be pesky, but really they were no trouble at all to assemble!

And here is block #35, The Wishful Garden, designed by Kristyne Czepuryk.  The original pattern had embroidery, but I was in a hurry so I added rick rack instead. I have to say, I really thought this block was fun to make!Block35-JacquelynneSteves-SplendidSampler

Because I did rack rack instead of embroidery, I used a slightly different method for putting my block together. The original pattern called for templates for the white embroidered area. However, I just used my rotary cutter to cut white strips which were the same width as the template, and slightly longer. Then I machine sewed on my rick rack- just sew right down the center of the rick rack.

I assembled the block as shown in the pattern- see how my white strips are a little longer than they need to be:

And then I trimmed off the excess for a perfect block:

The use of my rotary cutter and rick rack made this super fast to put together- I’d love to do a whole quilt with these adorable little blocks!

Here are my other completed blocks, you can read about them here, here and here:
