Today I’m doing a a little “throwback” post, with a project that my daughter made for one of her friends a couple of years ago. She created an apron with a cute little pocket and cupcake applique- and I’m including a Free Cupcake Applique Pattern- just click here for the PDF. She was still in high school when she made it- she designed it all by herself :) Her stitching isn’t perfect, but I like the handmade feeling that it has… it definitely doesn’t look like a store-bought gift. I think sometimes we get overly concerned with how perfect our finished project is, and forget that the important part is in enjoying the creative process- and I know her friend was totally thrilled to receive a gift that obviously required time and love.

She¬†has a really good intuitive sense of color- she put fabrics together that I never would have thought of, but they totally work- chambray blue, turquoise, coral, red, and pink. I think the reason they work together is because they all have a vintage 1930’s feel to them. What do you think?

What kind of project will you use your cupcake pattern for- an apron? a potholder? a kitchen towel?
