Handmade Holidays Giveaway!!

ToteBagGiveaway_JacquelynneSteves

Welcome to the Handmade Holidays Giveaway! I will be honest with you- I don’t usually make many gifts to give away for Christmas. I typically don’t think about gift-giving until after Thanksgiving, and by then there’s not much time left! What I do manage to do, though, is make dozens and dozens of cookies- then I buy inexpensive holiday plates, arrange the cookies on them, and give them as gifts to friends and neighbors. They love my homemade cookies, and they have a pretty plate to keep when the cookies are gone. (You can get really good deals on holiday dishware at large department stores, especially if you use their coupons. I have gotten gorgeous plates for as little as $2-3 each, by combining store sales with my coupons.)

Christmas Story bunny suitOne time, many many years ago, I DID start making gifts early in the fall. I made my nieces (who were about 6 and 8 years old at the time) those outfits that we used to make out of sweat suits, fusible fabric designs and dimensional fabric paint (I’m probably dating myself- do you remember those? Looking back, they were kind of hideous, but honestly they were all the rage way back when…) Anyway, I was so happy that I got the outfits done in time for Christmas, and I thought they were so cute. A few months after Christmas, I asked my nieces about them. And being kids, they were honest and said they didn’t wear them because they were itchy. Their mom just smiled sheepishly at me. (I can tell you, that if someone had made my kids something, they WOULD wear them, at least once, in that person’s presence. Let’s show a little appreciation, OK??? Now I’m thinking about Ralphie’s pink bunny suit in A Christmas Story…. Oh geez, is that what my handmade gifts equate to? Am I Aunt Clara???)

Anyway, I am giving away one of my handmade creations for this giveaway, and I hope it’s better than a scratchy sweat suit or a pink bunny suit!! Does it look a little familiar?
