(Did you catch my guest appearance on the American Patchwork and Quilting podcast with Pat Sloan yesterday? It was so much fun- if you missed it, click here to listen!)
I’ve been having so much fun thinking about all of the different fabrics and palettes you could use for the free Block of the Month which starts next month! And I really can’t wait to see what all of you come up with… Today I am sharing some ideas that I have been thinking about and playing with in my EQ7 program. Here is what the sample quilt (using my “Cottage Charm” fabric line) with the applique looks like:
But remember, even though the pattern will have instructions for applique and embroidery, you don’t have to do either if you don’t want to.
For the above quilt, I used fabric from my “Oh Holy Night” fabric line, and used the same floral in the block centers and the borders. Great Christmas/holiday quilt!
Same idea for the quilt above. It has a cottage-y feel that would be great for a sunroom or bedroom (for this I used my “Apple Blossom Acres” fabric line.) Substituting a beautiful print for the applique or embroidery in the centers of the blocks will make the project go quicker. I think it’s very eye-catching!
For the above quilt, I substituted dark blue fabric for all the white- you could still do the applique on this. Light fabric applique on the dark background would be gorgeous!
Or you could add even more drama by substituting the dark blue in the borders and binding, too.
Modern solids, anyone?
Finally, what about soothing, monochromatic blues??
