It’s almost time for the kids to go back to school! I always loved the beginning of the school year- shopping for school supplies, new shoes, and a new lunch bag! Even if you don’t have little kiddos going back to school (mine are grown, too!), I think you will find some really cute projects here that you will enjoy for your own use, or to give as gifts! And guess what- all of these projects are free :)
Kids’ Messenger Bag– adorable!
Drawstring Backpack– great for using up those novelty fabrics.
Pencil Bow Tutorial– super cute hair accessory.
Fabric Covered Notebooks– use your fat quarters to dress up composition books from the dollar store!
Desk Caddy made from wooden rulers.
Journal Jar– I think this is a great way to teach kids about gratitude. I’ve heard of the beginning of the school year referred to as the “first New Year’s”- because it represents a new beginning, just like January 1. This can also be used as a fun “journaling” project to record events throughout the year.
Apple Pie Cupcakes (because everyone deserves a special snack after that first day of school!)
Here’s to a great “new” year!
There are so many wonderful things to make. I don’t know where to begin. I do like the lunchbox bag. Also my daughter-in-law just got her first teaching job, so that personalized tote looks like a good project. The Apple Pie cupcakes ARE MINE!!!I
Now I am really ready for fall! Bring on the pumpkins! The colorful leaves! Pots of beautiful Mums!
Have a happy day!
Thank you for taking the time to put so many wonderful ideas together, there are a few projects that would make lovely Christmas gifts.I love Autumn as we call it in the UK, with Halloween and Christmas on the way possibly my favourite time of the year.?
Some great ideas for us here Jacquelynne, I downloaded the shark pencil case pattern and had a go last night! I now have a couple of sharks and (because it’s a challenging pattern and it seems like it’s giving people grief) I’ve taken some progress photos and blogged about it here: https://patchworkalley.com/2016/09/03/shark-pencil-case-tutorial/
Autumn is my favourite time of the year too!
Although all the projects are great, the one that got my attention is the “Book Clutch” I have lots of great fat quarter prints to use; thank you so much for these projects, and oh, the “apple pie cupcake” is a real treat!
I love the fish project and thanks for these projects!
Oh, NO!!!!!! The one thing that you included in the picture of things to make is a shark and it was the only thing that I could not wait to make for my granddaughter is a shark!!!! That is the name of a BIG competition Cheerleading team that she is involved in, and I would like to surprise her with one made in their team colors!
Otherwise, your post is as wonderful as always!!!!
