Fabric Ideas for Maggie’s First Dance Block of the Month

We will be starting the Free Maggie’s First Dance Block of the Month soon- Yippee!! One of my favorite things about the design process is playing with colors and prints. I had a ton of fun playing with the BOM pattern, seeing what it would look like made with all kinds of fabrics.

Here is the original:

(Love the quilt above? You can get the kit here.)

A) These fabrics are from the Bread n Butter collection by American Jane:

B) Aria by Kate Spain:

C) Larkspur by 3 Sisters:

D) Volume II by Sweetwater:

After I made these designs, I wanted to see what a quilt would like if I made a quilt just with the setting blocks. I love these quilt designs! The simple repetition of the same block looks really cool. It’s also a great way to showcase novelty fabrics or medium-large scale prints in the centers of the blocks.

E) Aria by Kate Spain:

F) Bread n Butter by American Jane:

G) Larkspur by 3 Sisters:

H) Hometown Girl Batiks by Pat Sloan:

Have any of these ideas inspired you? I have to be honest- I want to make ALL of them, LOL!!! (Who needs sleep??) Which of the above is your favorite? Tell us in the comments!

The blue Aria is my fave, along the colour choices I have made. Is the quilt meant to have 2 borders or 1?

I like both B & H. I like your idea for showcasing a novelty fabric and may have to make a second quilt to do just that.

I believe I’ve finally found the perfect pattern! I’ve been saving some beautiful Henry Glass fabric for just the right pattern. It’s too pretty to be cut up in small pieces. This pattern will showcase the fabric beautifully! Thank you so much! I’m really looking forward to getting started.

Just joined your site. I really like Maggie’s First Dance & plan to make 2 — for my twin great-granddaughters. I’m already several months behind this project, so I’ll just have to pace myself. (smile) Oh, well, they’re babies, so I’ve got time! I’m still hand-quilting #2 grandson’s 21st b/d quilt. Thankfully my quilt group will be coming over in a couple of weeks to lend a hand!

I’m so excited to have another beautiful quilt pattern to look forward to main. You’ve been so gracious with your free pattern and incredible ideas for creating the best looks. I’ll have to say, I’m pastoral to the red and white. But I do love Pat Sloans fabric lines. Those batiks are fabulous!
