It’s been a crazy couple of days! Tuesday evening, a storm ripped through our area- there were sustained winds like I’ve never seen before (and I’ve lived through a couple of hurricanes…) It was very brief, probably less than 10 minutes, but by the time it was over, our power was out, there were huge branches everywhere (carried 15 feet or more by the wind) and about a third of our beloved 100+ year old sycamore tree had fallen on the power line that goes from the street to the house. We braced ourselves to be out of power for several days… and indeed, as of Wednesday evening, when I called the electric company, we were told that the estimated time of restoration was 11:59 pm Sunday night! Yikes! Then, rather miraculously, I was awakened around midnight last night to the sound of the power coming back on- I couldn’t believe it! I thought I was dreaming. But sure enough, it came on and stayed on. However, now that the power is on, that means that we have a live power line hanging in the yard, and a huge tree still blocking our driveway… but, thankfully, the power was only for 30 hours and the tree didn’t fall on our house!! We are so grateful!
So today, now that I have electric and internet again, I am playing “catch-up” and doing fun stuff like cleaning out the refrigerator! So- today’s post is just a bunch of bits & pieces and “miscellaneous stuff” that I wanted to share with you…
First- I recently had an “Invite a Friend” contest for the Cozy Afternoon Block of the Month. Debbie D. invited her friend Jill W. to join the BOM. Jill joined the BOM, and was randomly chosen as a winner of a box of fabric. Her friend Debbie ALSO won a box of fabric for inviting her! Congratulations, Debbie and Jill! They are also receiving a package of Insul-bright, courtesy of The Warm Company. So maybe they will be using some of their new fabric to make some potholders??
Also- Congratulations to the winners of the giveaways on our blog hop! 6 lucky people won this:
The pattern in the upper right is called Flutterby- with oh-so-popular butterflies, dragonflies and mushroom appliques. The PDF pattern is regularly $5.00, but for just 3 days, it is $1.99!!!
Get the Flutterby pattern for just $1.99 through Saturday, June 28, 2015 ONLY. Click here.
Over in the shop, I have those adorable decorative pins back in stock! They sell out pretty quickly every time I get a new batch in. I’ve also added some new & different designs- How cute are these to dress up a pin cushion? Click here to see the newest selection of pins.
Speaking of pin cushions, if you got the last issue of The Art of Home Free Emagazine, you may remember that I mentioned that I was starting a pin cushion pattern series. So yes, we do have a brand new STINKIN’ CUTE pin cushion pattern included in the next issue (scheduled to come out sometime in July.) Make sure you are signed up so you don’t miss a thing! (and when you sign up, you get a free little gift from me, plus access to the archives so you can see all of the previous issues….)
Also in the shop, I have just a handful of fabric kits left for the Cozy Afternoon Free BOM– the BOM just started last week, and the blocks are quick and easy, so you have time to catch up!
Get your kit here. Sorry kits sold out. When the kits are gone, they are gone- several of the fabrics are now sold out and I cannot re-order them, so this could be your last chance…
Finally, I have been getting just a little sewing done lately. I’m still working on binding for a couple of quilts that I got back from my long arm quilter a couple of weeks ago. This is one of my 3 samples for the Cozy Afternoon BOM quilt:
And I’m working on a really cute quilt pattern- I don’t know about you, but a red, white & blue palette sure puts me in a “summer mood”!! I’ll reveal more as I progress…
