Here we are at Week 4 of the Sew Along, and I think this is my favorite block! Hop on over here to get your patterns for this quilt along, if you haven’t done so already! this quilt along is being hosted by Sarah J. Maxwell and Pat Sloan, and the pattern was designed by Sarah. And we have another giveaway, so read on!
Week 1 we made the flower centers:
Week 2 we made the flower petals:
Week 3 we made stems and leaves:
And now, we are making the Butterflies! Aren’t they pretty!
A tip for making this block- make absolutely sure you have the 5 1/2″ and 5 3/4″ sides of the wings in the right place when you’re sewing on the background squares! Since there’s only a 1/4″ difference, it’s really easy to make a mistake if you are trying to “eyeball” it, so measure the sides to be sure. Sew on the background squares, and then lay out the blocks to be sure that everything is sewn correctly. When you’re sure that they’re correct, then you can trim away those corners.
Join me next week- I’ll be assembling my quilt top! I did a different layout than the original pattern, I made just one flower and 2 butterflies and made them into a really cute lap-sized quilt.
And now the giveaway! Please click on over to Pat’s blog to enter. The giveaway is open until May 4, 2017.
