Getting Ready for a New Year

The week between Christmas and New Year’s Day is always a bit odd for me. I feel a little sad that Christmas is over (so much work and preparation, and then it’s just over!), but also a bit relieved. Part of me wants the holidays to linger, but another part is excited about a new year and a clean slate, and I can’t wait to get going… We like to relax the day or 2 after Christmas, but I admit that I am the type of person who hates sitting still and even feels a little guilty about it. This year,  I “planned” to sit on my bum all day on December 26, so it was quite enjoyable! Because it was “penciled in” as a lazy day, I didn’t even feel guilty! The computer stayed put away, and we just read and watched a couple of movies. Today it is back to work, but I’m still taking it easy… I have some organizing and things to do, so once I get this posted and get my emails answered, I think I’m going to put away the computer for a couple more days- what do you think?? There are still some festivities left- tonight, my husband and I are going out to dinner in center city Philadelphia with my daughter and son-in-law.  The city should be very pretty, with the Christmas lights and decorations still up. New Year’s Eve is still up in the air- probably just dinner out with a couple of friends, and then home to watch the television specials in our pajamas.

And… relaxing is certainly in order after the technical issues we had last week. The website was down for 2 days due to a server problem. Very inconvenient when you are running a blog hop and giveaway and have just put up a new batch of Block of the Month patterns on your website!!!! (And last night, I was trying to write this post, and WordPress was not working- we spent hours trying to get it figured out, and went to bed thinking I was going to have to contact my technical support consultant and not have a blog post up all week, and then somehow magically all was resolved this morning- thank goodness for that. I was starting to panic and get extremely frustrated last night. How many technical issues can you deal with over Christmas week?)

There is still time to enter the giveaways and do the blog hop- and let me tell you, I was just visiting a couple of the blogs this morning and there are some great ideas for the free Block of the Month blocks. Don’t miss it. Click here for the blog hop and giveaways.

Part of my “relaxation time” this week was spent working on hand sewing projects. Remember a couple weeks ago I showed you the hexies I was working on for the January issue of the free emagazine:

Well, now they’ve become “double hexies,” so the project is taking twice as long, but I think it’s going to be really cute! To be sure to get your FREE copy of the emagazine when it comes out, click here.

I also started work on a new embroidery project that I’m designing:

The week before Christmas, my husband and daughter and I went on a shopping trip, and I picked up a lot of fabric! I’ll admit that I haven’t been shopping for fabric in ages- I have so much here that usually I look but don’t buy. But I have a specific project I’m working on, and I wanted to try out several different fabrics. The new project may or may not be a new Block of the Month for 2015…

Finally, as this is probably my last post for 2014, THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for your support, encouragement, and kind words this year. It makes doing what I do a pleasure! I so enjoy hearing about your families, your latest projects, and your creative pursuits! I wish you all a very happy, healthy, fulfilling and creative 2015.

Lana- I’d always prefer warm weather to cold. Snow is pretty- as along as I don’t have to go out in it and I can just admire it from the indoors!

So glad your computer problems have been fixed. Love the pics of your new projects, especially the hexies. The embroidery is looking sweet and the bluework looks lovely. I used to do bluework a lot. Now when I want to use a single colour I often use variegated threads which look fantastic adding a bit of life to the stitchery. Looking forward to your new mag . Have a wonderful new year.

Ondrea- I use variegated threads sometimes too. They do add lovely dimension and kind of a “vintage” look to the project :)

I guess I’m an oddball–I like to cut! LOL I like making little kits, so when it is time to sew, I can sit and just sew the whole day! ..maybe even in pj’s! shhh ;-) Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! I know as I am writing this that the New Year has already started on the east coast but I still have an hour so am catching up on reading the blogs I got behind on over the holidays. I also need to get busy tomorrow and start catching up on the sew sweet simplicity BOM.
