I have just become a young grandmother ( age 50) and am so new til everything with quilting. I have always had a heartfelt dream of being one of those amazing crafters whom give a gift made of love and something that will be cherished for many many many years. I have just beaten my 3. cancer treatment and want to take that achievement and make a quilt with butterflies and pink roses, the way that my daughter has decorated her nursery. With the medicine costs that they are sooo expensive then there is nothing left to create this heirloom. We have never had the opportunity to learn about quilting because it was never something that they did. Great traditions have to start somewhere and sometime:0)
I enjoy your instructions and the beautiful creations you have on the website. It makes a non creative mother believe in the impossible dream of sewing something fabulous from scratch

thanks for your time to give us inspirations that will last a lifetime

I would love to learn paper-piecing in 2020. I am an accomplished piecer and quilter, both hand and machine. As a math major in school and an accountant by trade math is not an issue for me–and I logically use those math skills in drafting patterns. For some reason, though, paper piecing simply baffles me…it defies logic and I get stumped at every juncture. (I hope confession really IS good for the soul…lol).

I would really like to learn how to knit. Don’t know if I will have any time to do it, with taking care of my mother, husband (having complete knee replacement in March) and all the BOM’s, BOW, baby quilts, crocheting, embroidery that I already have scheduled for this upcoming year. I would love to win these prizes, they are all awesome.

Thank you so much for all you do for us and for sharing your creativity! I have my first real quilt I pieced and had it professionally quilted but have not put the binding on yet. I’m needing to learn how to use my walking foot and get that binding on. I tried a regular foot and it was stretching and distorting my fabric as I went so a friend recommended a walking foot. So I got one and my quilt is patiently waiting!

Also, my oldest granddaughter has asked that I teach her hand embroidery so that she can make personalized gifts for her bridesmaids. I am so very excited for the opportunity to win! Thank you for this chance. One thing I would like to learn to do in 2020 is applique, I love the look and I am a beginner quilter bought my first long-arm in November 2019. No one in my family quilts so I pretty much have taught myself and I think adding applique to my quilts would be amazing.

I would like to paper piece. I’ve never even tried it, and I think that is ridiculous. If I try it and don’t like it, that’s one thing. But to avoid it because I think it’s too hard or that I won’t be good at it, after two decades of quilting, is just juvenile. So, I’m going to change that in 2020!

What a great question (which is only fitting, for such a great giveaway)! This year I’d really like to tackle my quilting skills. I feel like I piece well, I love applique, I enjoy a variety of different techniques and processes in the construction of a flimsy, but I get stuck at the quilting part. I have a LOT of unfinished projects because of that. I don’t want to just do straight lines and stitch-in-the-ditch quilting, but it’s scary! LOL! And I just can’t afford to send things out to be quilted by other. I’d like to tackle the fear, finish some quilts, and feel more confident in my abilities and finishes. :)

While I guide the fabric under the needle, she sits next to me with her foot on the peddle. Oh, my goodness! We have had some races, I must say. LOL.. Lots of laughter comes out of my sewing room these days. I am loving every minute.

I would love to sew a better sensory quilt for the blind and deaf babies I have committed to enrich this year. We have a few hundred families whose babies have been born either blind, poor vision, or deaf. The sensory quilt has 12 one foot squares of fabrics of different textures with embellishments on them to the child can feel the difference and learn the textures. No buttons on them for safety reasons. The backing is black fabric as the poor vision child may be able to see a battery lighted toy and crawl or react to it. This is a big job for one person and hope you can provide some ideas on enriching attachments to assist and enrich the children and their families. I so appreciate this blog.

I really want to learn how to balance things better. I have two kids and a handmade craft business. As I get excited to make things for each season it’s like my family no longer exists. I also sew weighted blankets for a local company. I haven’t sewn in over three weeks because I keep turning towards my own crafts. I am about to start fostering to adopt and worry that if I throw myself fully into that everything else will still be pushed to the side. I need to learn balance, moderation, something!

I want to learn machine quilting. My 83 year old mother has hand quilted mine up to this point, but I could only make lap throws bc larger are too hard for her quilt. So, I’m making larger quilts and my friend just got a quilting machine and we’re going to learn together. Great prizes, looking forward to what’s next.

I’m not really new to quilting because I grew up with a mom that always had a quilt on the long quilting boards sanding in a corner someplace in the house. It has been years since I did any sewing, but for some crazy reason ( my mom’s example) I decided to make all 9 of my grandchildren and my three sons a quilt for Christmas 2019. They were simple designs because I am not too good at hard patterns yet. I have a granddaughter that will be getting married next spring and I want to make her a beautiful Wedding Ring Quilt. I have never made the curved pieces and have no idea how to put them together, so that is the one thing I would like to do this year 2020.

Thank you for sharing your patterns, your creativity and your talent. I love the way you encourage us to think outside the box. Would love to find a way to create hanging sleeves that don’t show on the back of the quilt. To me, these take away from the quilt, especially if you do a design or pattern on the back. Would also love to learn an easy way to apply a binding that gives you wobble free results.
I wish everyone luck and wish I could win, unfortunately with no dependable mail service here, that is impossible as everything would have to be digital downloads.

Recently saw ‘The Tall Man’ starring Jane Russel and Clark Gable. Yes, it’s an old movie. Throughout the show Jane has a beautiful quilt she keeps with her. It looks to have four coxcomb blocks approximately 36″ each. I blew up pics I took of the quilt from the TV and had them developed. Just starting to draw the block. I will make this quilt using the same colors that are in the movie. That is my challenge for this year.
