Jacquelynne Steves

I Love Home BOM Block 4 is here!

I Love Home Free Block of the Month, with options for applique, embroidery, and piecing only | JacquelynneSteves.com

Today we are releasing the last block, Block #4! Time for another free house quilt block! PLEASE NOTE- I realize that there is A LOT OF INFORMATION IN THIS POST! PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ THROUGH IT ALL- Answers to most of your questions will be found in this post. Thanks!!

The fourth block for the I Love Home Free Block of the Month was sent out a short time ago. If you are signed up, please check your email for your pattern. (Please note- sometimes it can several hours for the email to reach your inbox. If you don’t have it yet, please be patient and check back a little later.)

If you can’t find your email, please check your spam folder, and Gmail users please check your “Promotions” folder. If you still can’t find it, please email me comments@JacquelynneSteves.com  We do our best to answer as soon as possible. PLEASE do not comment here to tell us that you can’t find your email- you comment will be deleted! Please email for assistance. Thank you!!

VERY IMPORTANT- If you email us a question and don’t hear back in 24-48 hours, please check your spam folder! We answer all emails, so if you don’t hear back from us, it’s very possible that our response is in your spam folder!!

For technical questions, like how to download/save a PDF, etc. please visit our Frequently Asked Questions page.

If you are NOT signed up yet, please fill in the box in the upper right side bar of THIS PAGE to get your FREE block patterns! NOTE- THE PATTERNS ARE NOT ON MY WEBSITE OR BLOG- YOU MUST SIGN UP TO RECEIVE THEM BY EMAIL.

Just ONE MORE THING- Please download and save the files to your computer immediately, so that you can find them when you need them. Don’t rely on trying to find the email with the links later- As many have found, emails tend to get lost, even when you put them in a special folder :)  As this event grows larger with more and more participants, it gets more difficult for me to reply to emails requesting that I re-send the patterns. THANKS SOOOOOO MUCH!!!!

OK- time for the fun!

The fourth block features a different little house. I made 2 versions of this. First, the machine appliqued version using our fabric kit  SORRY, KITS ARE NOW SOLD OUT.

The combination of the HRT’s and hourglass units make a really, really cool star design, don’t you think??

And here is my embroidered version, done in a palette of red and gray. I like the country/cottage look to it. And remember, even though the embroidery design is fairly detailed, you can make your stitching go much quicker by working with just one color of embroidery floss (I’ve used Aurifloss by Aurifil black #2692):

(And don’t forget about the  “wonky house” option for the center for your block!)

I’ve been using my Olfa mat and their newest Endurance blades– they really last a long time! And when you have sharp blades, your mat will last longer because you don’t have to apply so much pressure to cut (your arm will last longer too, lol.)

Our last block (#3) featured HRT’s (Half Rectangle Triangle units). Many of you told me that you had never made HRT’s before, but that you really enjoyed this method! I think it’s pretty fun. We will be making HRT’s for block #4 as well. You can find a tutorial and video HERE. I HIGHLY recommend that you make a couple of practice units until you get the hang of making HRT’s- they aren’t really difficult once you get the hang of them, but they are probably quite different from the kinds of units that you are used to making.

You may also find this tutorial for trimming hourglass units helpful, too!

We LOVE seeing your blocks! Our Sew Quilty Friends Facebook group has been super active this year- I think we’ve got at least 100 different block photos there (and counting!!!) Stop by one or two of the places below and see the incredible blocks everyone has been making!
