On snow days I like to sit on the couch with my cat with a cup of tea making hexies. In the same room my husband is watching TV and if my grandson is over he’s playing and I also play Monolopy Jr with him.

I love making chili or beef stew on cold days. Then make some brownies and hot tea and sit under a warm quilt with my cat Andy. We either watch old movies, read books or do some embroidery/cross stitch.

Well I am in the middle of a blustery snow storm right now too! How ironic after reading you were doing the same LOL! What I like to do is grab ANY hand embroidery with either a nice hot cup of coffee or tea, put my favourite music on or TV show with a nice cozy comfy quilt and stitch until my kids come home from school! I just love to stitch when I can especially in the winter as it helps the day go so much better when the weather is bad and did I mention that once I started I have been totally hooked and love also to look for new patterns, books and whatever I can find for future projects!

When its blustery outside, I love to brew a flavored tea and create – sewing or knitting. Or reading. Or watching a movie with my kids. Something cozy. I also spend a considerable amount of time at the window, admiring the snow globe in front of me. It is beautiful. And I’m so thankful that I don’t have to drive in it… Right about then, my son informs me that he is scheduled to work in 20 minutes… and the snow globe bursts. Haha.

When it gets a little “chilly” here in Cuenca, Ecuador, we like to light a cozy fire in the fireplace, make a cup of chocolate de cafe (chocolate coffee) or make a cup of Irish coffee. Then I settle in front of the fire with either some sewing handwork, crochet or a good book. Since retiring to Ecuador, we get to enjoy a “Michigan summer” all year long, usually never cooler than 50 and no hotter than 75. While I usually comment on give-a-ways, I know the only way I could win would be digital prizes as there is no dependable mail service here in Ecuador, but it is nice to dream. Thank you for sharing your time, your talent and your delightful patterns.

Thank you so much for organising this! I loved making the blocks, I never participated in a BOM before. I finished 3 blocks and made them in to mini-quilts, representing spring, autumn and winter.
The winters are not extremely cold in the Netherlands, but that’s the time to sit behind my sewing-machine and do some stitching. Can be for clothes, patchwork or bag-making. I love it all. In the summer it’s boating-time and I have not that much time for sewing. So winter is sewing-time!

After years of snow, ice and cold, I bundle up, but tend to stay inside. I quilt and read. I live in Texas so we do not get much winter weather but oddly enough tonight they are predicting a winter snowy/icy storm so to prepare I have started a new flannel quilt (to go along with the dozen other projects I am working on, made sure I have groceries and plenty of tea, and now I am just dreaming of the white stuff! I teach school so snow days are dream days. Stay warm everyone!

When it is cold and blustery I love to curl up under one of my quilts and do hand embroidery. I love to embroider blocks for quilts! I usually start my day with a hot cup of coffee and my iPad so I can check facebook and all of the quilt posts inspire me, at some point in the morning I will either sew or cut pieces for a quilt. After lunch I will sew for a few hours and then I will find my spot on the couch with my warm quilt over me and either hand sew the binding on a quilt or do my embroidery, or crochet, depends on the mood I am in lol. My family says I am turning into my mom whose hands were never idle. I love that my mom had such an influence on me!

Well, I am originally from Nashville, Tennessee so I know about the cold days. For the past 8 years, I have been living in Louisiana, and I thought my REAL cold days were behind me, but Mother Nature had other plans for me. Lol. It can get almost just as cold down here in Louisiana as it does in Tennessee. I was surprised and sad. I was ready to get out of the cold. Well, one of the things I do on those cold days is go into my NEW sewing room my husband made for me, and get some embroidery items to do while I watch Netflix or I will work on whatever project I have going at the time. I have 3 quilts going for family and I have two that I have to start for an order from my daughters co-worker. These will be my first quilts that I do for someone that is not family or friend. I’m a little nervous because I consider my self a confident beginner and I hope I can do it. Wish me luck? Thanks for the opportunity to win this fabulous contest. Kellie.

When the weather is really snowy outside, I like to go to my sewing room and get busy on an unfinished project or start something new. I want to get supper going in the kitchen that I don’t have to watch constantly so today I think it will be a pork roast cooked on top of the stove with wagon wheel noodles. I also like to sit a couple of canned cokes in the snow out on the deck so that I will have an icy, slushy drink in no time.

Believe it or not, we even get cold blustery days here in Alabama. Today is going to be one of those days and everything, including the University of Alabama is shutting down. You will find me either in my sewing room working on the latest project and watching something I have recorded or in the LR watching tv and working on my current EPP project.

As far as I am concerned, a “Snow Day” is a “Sew Day.” Most days, I try to get things that must be done, done first. Then I feel free to go to my sewing maching, cut out a new project, hand embroidery, etc. But on a snow day, I take my craft to a new height. I love to sit and sew and watch the snow as it falls. That’s what I call a vacation. Thanks for all your beautiful patterns!!!

My favorite thing to do on a very cold winter day. Is curl up with a mug of hot tea and get out my embroidery bag. Then go get in my big fat comfy chair where I just sit and embroider the entire day away. I usually have several patterns already traced out and ready to go at any given time. It’s no fun to want to embroider and nothing is ready to be stitched. So I try and stay prepared when I’m down to one design in my hoop and 1 left to stitch. I go and start tracing them out. Last time I traced 10 out. I like to be prepared. Stitching and hot tea and a good comfy chair. The best solution to cold winter days at my house. Oh yeah and I love for my cat to jump up on the chair arm by me. So every now And then I can run my fingers through his fur.

Well we had 2 1/2 days of snow and blowing. My front door got a drift in front of it for the first time since we moved here, and the front door is back under the porch roof. So I hibernated with my husband and worked on some hand sewing and some embroidery projects for a new quilt I would like to make for my daughter for Christmas 2018. I enjoy the snow here in Ohio and because I like snow better than mud and the snow makes everything so beautiful when it covers the trees and scrubs. I am looking forward to the next block of the month. I am so glad that I found this blog or website and joined the club. I enjoy seeing the other versions of the House Quilt. We’ve already had a few -39 days so I’ve had a chance to ‘practice’ for when winter really hits ;-) I like to settle in with a project or a good book with the heat turned up just a bit. These are the times I miss having a fireplace – there’s nothing like a crackling fire when the wind is howling around the house. A supply of tea and some hearty soup get me through the day.

We live on a farm in Wisconsin and it’s a blizzard out side. I do some chores and get back to the house, eat and spend one hr. organizing in the sewing room, then cut out about four blocks. I cozy down with our two puppies with quilts by the wood stove and we all take a nap. I enjoy your great website! Happy winter!!

Oh, my favorite thing if it’s day time is to spend the time sewing. I even have a handcrank if there’s no electricity! And a propane lantern to keep me warm. LOL If it’s night, I usually curl up with a book, sometimes needing that lantern for light. We’ve been lucky this time, just danged cold – 6 degrees tonight, and that’s way too cold for this desert rat! The house is full of quilts, though, so I’ll stay warm under about 5 or 6 that are on the bed. Thanks for all the great stuff you have on here – love the mitten.

We don’t get many real snow days here until about a week ago! I stayed inside and peered out the windows to watch the big snowflakes falling and piling up and drifting with the wind. I curled up with my kitty and some embroidery patterns and ideas. I was greatly entertained and now the snow is gone but they say we will get more! That’s OK! I have my light box fixed at last and some purl cotton on order and almost selected a few delightful designs to embroider. I just had to step away from quilting for a bit as my projects were getting the best of me. Appliqué with that heat & bond was disappointing and I think I did it wrong because the appliqué is hard. I have some freezer paper now and it’s a new year. Hope springs eternal and I am content.

How do I keep cozy in the winter??? Good question.. some days I bake simple white or wheat breads. Some days I bake cookies or brownies. Play with our 4 dogs and try to get some sewing done. I am a “quilter in progress” so to say. Fairly new and have ideas (sometimes) and a great fabric shortage always..lol With the passing of my husband this past Spring I am trying to refine my “me” time. I pray we all stay warm and Spring of 2018 comes with a bright smile on her face. Good luck everyone!! And to Ms. Jacquelynne and all the sponsors a big thank you for a great prize package!!!

Fast forward 6 decades and I now like to spend my snowy days sewing, working on jigsaw puzzles, baking, and reading. These cold winter days are AWESOME!!There is nothing like a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup and a cup of hot tea (or even a hot toddy) while you are curled up in your favorite lap quilt. I, of course, need my four bodyguards surrounding me (4 cats) and it is amazing how much they can heat you up. With my hand project of the day and a good old movie, that I have see hundreds of times (that way all you have to do is listen to it while you work). Ah, that it is a wonderful day. All it needs to make it even better is a nap. I bet the hot toddy would help with that.

Well. First, I make sure I put out pans to catch the snow to make snow cream or frozen margaritas. Then I make some hot chocolate as I wait for enough snow for the first thing. Second, I get a cozy blanket, a good book, a hand sewing project and set them up on either the couch or chair. Third I open the shutters so I can see the snow coming down and position the chair for a good view. Lastly, I just enjoy.

Before setting up my sewing room I loved sitting by the fire with a cup of cocoa either reading, knitting or some sort of hand embroidery/sewing in my lap.
Now I love to sit in my sewing room looking down on the scenery below while sewing. Today my view is of lite snow fall.
We live along the Chesapeake Bay and have a partial water view which is easier to see with the trees free of their Fall leaves.
Thank you again for the 2017 BOM. I cannot wait to sign up for 2018.

Wow comment on a snowy day, that was yesterday and is today and last week so I know exactly what I did and am doing: sewing. First I love to look at my patterns then dream about getting them all made. After sensory overload sets in I have a break, a cup of tea, maybe a cookie oh well probably a cookie and then jump right in where I left off on whatever I am making. I love winter! What I would like to do is snuggle back in bed, read and drink tea. What I really do is dress in multiple layers, go feed the horses and barn cat and clean the barn, go inside to thaw out, bake, sew whatever is next on the list, do laundry, clean and then go back out to feed horses and barn cat. The barn cat is very snugly and I still love winter. It is easier when we lose power; no laundry or baking.

We sew on the dining room table with music on and I am able to see the snow falling out of my patio doors! Zoey comes to me quite often and lays her head on my arm which is a signal to pet her! Then she doesn’t have enough so she puts first one paw and then the other into my lap and get the big petting! I can’t even describe how sweet she is. Here in Northern CO we’ve had more bitter cold than snow, this year! On snowy mornings there’s shoveling to do first so we can actually leave the house! If you are a native or have lived here for any length of time the snow & cold don’t hold you back from leaving & doing what’s planned. If I DON’T have to get out, whether it’s sunny or snowy, I’m in my sewing room working on a project for a few hours during the day.

I always have a crocheted afghan in progress that may not be touched for months, but when S Texas turns cold, gray, and gloomy, I find myself working on it. This is my “comfort craft” evidently. My first comment was rejected because I was going too fast. ?? Sorry if I wind up with two comments posted.

I love to hand sew when it is cold and snowy outside. If I have a trip that needs to have binding finished, then that is perfect, because the quilt will cover me and keep me nice and warm while I am working on it. I usually sit near the largest windows in our home, so that I can see the beautiful snow drifts and enjoy the quiet stillness. It is like meditation…so relaxing.

Sewing is the best no matter what the weather is doing. We just had a bad ice/snow event and the kids were out of school for a week. Normally around here (IN) it snows then turns warms in a day or two but not this time. Temps were below freezing for daaays. Our driveway is a half mile long through a corn field and drifts badly. We were snowed in a couple days. So, I worked on a quilt and today pleated a couple things to smock for a new granddaughter. Sewing is always the answer!
