In the Studio this Week…

This weekend, we went up to visit my daughter at grad school. Her birthday was last weekend- that makes three birthdays in a row that we couldn’t be with her! Darn! I told her that actually, she should give ME the presents, since I gave birth to her, LOL. It was nice to just relax and hang out. Of course, Alfie went with us and you can see how relaxed he was:

I gave Daughter some art supplies for her birthday, so we had fun playing with them:

I managed to get a little stitching done in the car on the way up and back (4 hours each way, I helped with the driving just a little, but I really don’t like the windy mountain roads!!!)

We got a little snow while we were up there- just enough to be pretty but not enough to be a nuisance (the best kind.) We took a walk at the park across the street from her apartment:

Now that we’re home, it’s back to the usual stuff. I guess I need to take down my Valentine’s Day decorations, but I love them so much! I guess I could do St. Patrick’s Day, I do like green (but not as much as red and pink….)

We are enjoying some very unseasonably warm weather for February- I intend to get outside and enjoy it before the rain comes (forecast says 5 days of raining coming! Just got the basement dried out from the last rain!!)

My daughter is also in grad school-and working toward both her Master’s and PHD. :) She too has followed in her moms foot steps in being crafty and in decorating for all holidays! Of course she also says she is probably the only college student with quilts hanging up-haha :) The moments we cherish when spending time with our kids :) Love your Valentine’s decorations-yep, time for them to come down and put up Easter soon. Stay warm and dry!

Beautiful stitching! Any pointers on how you keep your stitches so even in size?

Hi Stephanie! Really, in addition to practice, it’s super helpful to have good lighting and use magnifier glasses if necessary (I can’t live without mine, and they make a world of difference!!)

I have the same problem with uneven stitches. Since I haven’t embroidered in a long time, it’s like starting all over again. BBs are giving me a chance to practice but still have a long way to go. When I point out the mistakes to my son he tells me “don’t worry about it, it’s yours.” I rip out if it does not appeal to me and try again. Enjoying it anyway, mistakes and all. Just finished #5.
