I promised photos of International Quilt Market, and here they are! I feel the need to apologize for the quality, they were taken with an iPhone- we just didn’t feel like dragging the big camera around with us.
(For those of you who may not familiar with Quilt Market, it is a trade show which is open only to manufacturers, shop owners, publishers, designers, etc. in the industry.)
I did a demonstration at the Henry Glass Fabrics booth and we had a great turnout! We did some giveaways and I gave a CD with patterns to the shop owners who were there.
During my demo, I talked about my newest fabric line for Henry Glass, which is called Cottage Charm. It is scheduled to be delivered to stores in April 2014. I will be showing you an up-close peek at this line next week here on my blog.
The Hilton across the street from the convention center had a pumpkin decorating contest (Market is held the weekend before Halloween.) The theme was superheroes, and there were some clever pumpkins… but I have a special fondness for the Minions (from the movie Despicable Me.)
But my very favorite part about Quilt Market is meeting up with some of my favorite people, who I only get to see once or twice a year!
Clowning around with Linda Lum DeBono and Karen Junquet from Henry Glass Fabrics
Me and my design director from Henry Glass Fabrics, Harriet Clemens
Hanging out with Shasta and Jana from Izzy and Ivy Designs in their booth. Aren’t their colors fun!
Me with Dawn Heese from Linen Closet Quilts. Dawn has a really pretty primitive style. I just love this quilt- it’s even more striking in person!
We went to dinner together at my favorite place in Houston, a Mexican restaurant called Guadalajara. I had this super delicious Blackberry Pomegranate Mojito- and it was on the “Skinny” menu! Less than 200 calories :)
And here I am with Quilts for Kids Founding President Linda Arye. At this Market, Quilts for Kids had their own booth- and there was lots of interest by both quilt shop owners and manufacturers to help make quilts for seriously ill hospitalized children. You may remember that I did a fabric line for them last year and donated all of my royalties to Quilts for Kids. If you want to use your quilting talents to “give back,” then these are the people to contact!!
More photos next week! Stay tuned :)
Looks like you had a whirlwind time in Houston – it must be so fun to see all of the new designs of fabric and quilts that are on display!!
It soooo inspiring to see all of the new fabrics and designs! It makes me wish I had brought my machine to Market so I could just go back to my hotel room and start sewing right away, ha ha.
It sure looks like you had a great time! You visited so many different vendors. It must have been fun. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Tami- yes fun, and tiring! It always very inspirational- I come home and can’t wait to start working on new projects :)
That mojito looks goooooddd! I have always wanted to visit Texas– anywhere of interesting in Houston?
You know, Tracy- I don’t get out much to see the city! Mostly it’s the hotel to the convention center, dinner, then back to the hotel to collapse into bed and do it all the next day :)
Many years ago I was in San Antonio and I really liked it- it was around St. Patrick’s Day and they actually dyed the river green!
What fun! Thanks for letting us see the Quilt Market! I can’t wait to see your new fabrics!
