I’ve been quilting since 2007. My MIL wanted to make our children one last quilt but her eye-sight was failing. She asked me to finish them, so I needed to learn what I was doing. I started with going to quilt shows, attending a couple of classes and quilt retreats and joining a group making charity quilts. Thank you for the pattern and the giveaway! And thanks to the sponsors!

I had no idea what I was doing, but it’s still with us today after being a part of many family events! I didn’t quilt anything again til 4 years ago and now I’m hooked!

I made my first quilt (all triangles) about 15 years ago. That quilt was not well received so I never made another one. Last year I found Pat Sloan and participated in her BOM and decided to make quilts for myself and people who appreciated them. I met you through Aurifil DOM and Splendid Sampler and I am HOOKED on your work!! I am using these blocks as a feature in my craft room. So…in answer to the question, I have been quilting for about a year now although I made ONE quilt 15 years ago…I am really learning new things and working on my skill improvement now. I would be honored and humbled to win your prize, thank you for this opportunity!!

Oh, I first took a quilting class back in the early 80’s…in the dark ages, when we made our own templates and no one had ever heard of a rotary cutter. Needless to say, I never finished that quilt. Took it up again in the late 90’s, but we lived in a tiny house with no room for anything, so I had to give it up, since there was no place to sew. However, 3 years ago, we moved to a wonderful home that has a basement, which I have taken over. Plus I retired 16 months ago, so not a day goes by that I do not sew!!!

I’ve been quilting since 2001. That was shortly after my mother died, which I suspect wasn’t a coincidence. That loss turned my thoughts toward the many hours she had spent making clothing for me and my brother, and the legacy of quiltmaking we’d inherited from her mother. Now here I am, all these years later, and I see my life through the prism of quilting, and express myself through fabric and pattern more than any other way.

I tend toward art quilts, but love the simplicity and colors of yours. Recently got my sister addicted to quilting…… happy to get anyone involved in this addiction!

It’s easy to tell you how long I’ve been quilting… Since the beginning of Maggie’s First Dance. ;) Block 1 was the first quilt block I ever made. I got through Block 4, but it was so messed up that I needed to re-do it, but then I was moving across state and I haven’t found my sewing machine since! I had only planned to make it into a wall hanging this time, but I still plan on finishing it after the new year starts. Thank you so much for making the beginning of my quilting life such a joy!

Money being very tight with a new house, I saved until July took my 1st class and made my husband a Triple Irish Quilt. So next month will mean I’ve been quilting for 27 years. I can’t believe it’s been that long, unless I look in my sewing room, I’m sure I can find some 1980’s or 1990’s fabric. ? Thanks for the generous giveaway!

I have made three quilts in the past seven years. I first learned to sew in 4-H over 50 years ago. It is fun to use skills learned years ago in quilts I made for myself and two of three sons. Nothing in my sewing is modern so either prize would be an addition to sewing room.

So sorry that I haven’t been able to finish any of my block #5’s for my quilt but as the pattern came out I had just enough time to down load it and get back to packing as we were in the middle of packing and we still haven’t had the room or re-found the box to set up the sewing machine again in our new place but I will post both the single blocks and the finished top once I find and finish it.

My first quilt was done in 1974 after losing a full term baby that lived for 20 minutes. As a result of the loss I decided to take a class at a junior college, and I was excited to see that quilting was a class. This was a sampler quilt with 12 blocks all done with templates and hand sewing. I decided that wasn’t my cup of tea. Twenty years later my oldest daughter’s husband was laid up in the hospital for weeks and then went home for months of care by her. We heard of a free quilting class at a local WalMart and signed up for it. What a difference from my first class and it was great therapy for her. So, I have been playing with fabric for almost 23 years now.

I made my first quilt in 1970. One of my Canadian cousins got me started and then I took a couple of classes. Here I am all these years later I have made so many projects I have lost count. I make quilts, runners, table toppers, mug rugs and more. This year I made a bunch of pot holders to include in everyone’s Christmas gifts. I just can’t seem to stop. I love your site.

I originally started quilting about 35 years ago and quilted about 5 years. I took a hiatus from quilting for 30 or so years but last year the passion reawakened with a vengeance! I am working on quilting my Maggie quilt with my new sewing machine, using my walking foot, not experienced enough with free motion yet but that will come with practice. Thanks Jacquelynne, truly enjoyed this BOM and I love my quilt!

I made my first top way back in 1974 but had no idea how to quilt it! I finally tied it. I begannagain in 1990 to make a quilted topper for my daughters( number 5. Chikd after 4 boys) changing table. I also handvquikted a few 12.5 inch squares for throw pillows.

In 2002, I needed to find something. My daughter had out grown smocked dresses and we had lost our 2nd son at the WTC. I really needed something to get me to havevanything else to think about. Some nice ladies ( the original Quikts for Kids) brought mymsurvuvung children quilts, I found my passion.

I quilt almost everyday-either handwork or by machine.

Hi! The finished 2016 quilts are stunning! I made my first quilt, a baby quilt for a friend, more than 40 years ago out of a mix of fabrics, including satins and polyesters, but lots of colors and HSTs, and tied, not quilted. I’ve been quilting off and on as time allowed and have even been able to take some classes to learn new skills in the last few years since I retired.

I made my first quilt about 4 years ago. I didn’t even think about making another one until recently. I’ve made 2 quilts in the 2 months. They were quilted on my 31 year old Bernina domestic machine. I’ve got the quilting fever now and already have my fabrics for my next quilt and am looking for the next pattern and fabrics!

I have been quilting about 17 years. I started quilting after I tore my ACL in my left knee on a mission trip. After having it surgically repaired, my mom said “why don’t you take a quilting class with me”? I thought, I’ll take the class and then she’ll get off my ass. Well, I’m still quilting with my mom. She’ll be 90 in February. Best hobby I’ve ever picked up-I get to hang out with y best friend.

I’ve been sewing for as long as I can remember, but I put off quilting for many years because I’m so bad at math. A friend finally talked me into it, and now, I just use patterns as guides. Somehow, I always make changes, so whatever I’m making always turns out differently than the designer had intended. Now my friend jokes that she created a monster!

This will involve math! I began quilting the year I graduated from high school, 1975. I continued for many years until the early- to mid-90s. I was an emergency department RN and due to working around potentially risky patients I gave quilting up, as I hand-quilted my projects. Still working with patients in Urgent Care, but discovered machine quilting about three years ago, so I am back to quilting! Twenty-one active years (approximately).

I have been quilting about 25 years and love it more now than when I started. Being self taught, there were a lot of patterns that I was terrified to try, but since I have found a guild and have taken every class I can, my confidence has grown so much. Have put quilts in our guild quilt show and a county fair and won first place ribbons, that really makes you want to try that hard pattern that you’ve been saving. Even teaching classes now, I love quilting so much and everyone says I am so enthusiastic and patient in class. Would love to win this prize package. Thanks for a great pattern.

I have only been quilting for about a year. I had sewn a few curtains and things but never quilted until last year when my parents moved out of state. My mom was heartbroken to leave my sister and I and my three children behind so I wanted to make her something she could take with her to remember us every day. I decided on a memory quilt that included everyones appliqued handprints, photo blocks, print blocks with fabric for each child and embroidery blocks with special quotes. I fell madly in love with the entire process and created a beautiful and personal quilt that she cherishes dearly. Since the day I finished it I have not stopped since. I love quilting!!

I embroidered my first project at age seven, and I still have it! Through Girl Scouts, I learned to use the sewing machine and have never looked back! That’s over 60 years ago. I majored in Home Economics in college and taught elementary school, both Home Economics and all elementary grades (K-8) for 35 years before retiring and taking up quilting full time. I did some small quilting projects while teaching, but have really delved into it the last few years. I taught embroidery to 4th and 5th graders and still do embroidery projects at night while quilting during the day. I have the best of both worlds!

I am a beginner quilter. I have made two embroidered and pieced wall hanging/ table runners. I have made a couple of pieced mug rugs done in the hoop as well as a few quilt blocks on the embroidery machine. I have made two jelly roll race quilts and am working on my first pieced block quilt. I love beautiful quilts and really enjoy the wonderful inspiration all these posts provide. I can’t wait to try some of these fabulous blocks and learn to free motion quilt better.

I became disabled several years ago and I was very depressed. I happened to see a quilt show on PBS that intrigued me. It was beautiful and a quilt of Valor. That sparked my interest. I’very been sewing since I was in the 8th grade and thought, I’ll give it a try. I fell in love with quilting! I owe a great debt to wonderful people like you who are kind enough to share free patterns with people like me that make it possible for me to be able to keep quilting. THANKS SO MUCH! !!

I made my first quilt for my first granddaughter 9 years ago. I drew it out on graph paper and appliqued butterflies, dragonflies and flowers on it. Two years ago I bought a Viking quilting machine and since then have made several quilts always designed on graph paper. I am self taught and this is my second time participating in your BOM. Love what you do. I recently took an appliqué class with Irene Blanck and fell in love with it. I have not started my Maggie’s First Dance but plan on doing the appliqué included in it. Thanks! Can’t wait to see what you come up with next.

I started quilting nearly 35 years ago when I got started at a young age with our church’s women’s group. I had a wonderful teacher, Mary Ann, who encouraged me every step of the way and shared all her techniques she learned over her vast years of quilting. Back then we quilted by hand around a frame and I fell totally in love with piecing, quilting and finishing quilts that would eventually be raffled at our church picnic. These quilts are absolutely stunning and so many varied interpretations of the pattern. Congratulations ladies on jobs well done.

I took my first quilting class about twelve years ago. I never liked the sampler quilt I made. I didn’t really know how to put colors together or do any quilting. So, I put it in a plastic bag and stored it away. About a month ago I bought fabric for the back and finished the quilt. In the meantime I have made several quilts and other items.

Wow. Beautiful quilts. I have been quilting for about 25 years. Doesn’t seem possible. I started by taking a Quilt-In-A-Day log cabin Christmas tree skirt class. Quilted quilts for our four daughters. Really got serious when I quilted a sea themed quilt for a new granddaughter eleven years ago. Have since quilted for all six grand children and an aunt in Florida. Oh and twins for a young man that my husband works with. I’m sure there are other projects I have forgotten about. Not too good at keeping a quilt journal. Have lots of projects in the planning process. Oh yeah. I am finally going to finish the quilt I have made for us which I started three years ago. Happy holidays everyone and happy quilting.

I received a quilt top from my grandmother at the young age of 17 and it was a hand pieced double wedding ring. It was not quilted. I loved it and took it too my friend ( adopted grandmother) to show her the beautiful quilt. She was a hand quilter and the next thing we did was teach me to assemble my gorgeous quilt and set it up on her handmade quilting frames. She taught me to sew for the first twenty minutes without knots. I love the memories of her telling stories of quilting bees and her painstakingly teaching me to be a quilter! The quilt is finished and looks pretty good but I love the memories of Mrs. MacMillion more.
I lost my father in 2008 and my grief lead me to my first class on piecing a quilt. I’ve loved it and have been able to learn and advance my skillls. I love quilting!

Since then I have pieced the tops of 5 quilts still waiting to be finished. I keep finding quilt patterns or embroidery patterns that I love and move on instead of completing my projects. My husband thinks it is the hunt that I love and buying the fabrics more than the completion. I hope to prove him wrong this new year. I have printed out the BOM patterns hoping to do one day. Hope you keep up your creative messages and designs. I look forward to my emails with all the new ideas!

I have been quilting since 2005. I am guilty of making tops more than completed quilts, seems like I only complete the ones I give away as gifts. Something I hope to change because it is too bad to leave such pretty quilts unfinished. I love buying fabrics and have a wonderful stash to fall back on also. I only do straight line quilting with my walking foot because I just don’t have the funds to hire a longarmer. The good thing about that, the quilt is mine from start to finish regardless of the simplicity of it.

Thank you for the question. I loved doing the quilt and my quilter friends said “It’s lovely and doesn’t look like something you (I) would do.” I usually do traditional, primitive or embroidery quilts. I am self taught since 1971 when I got bored waiting for my son to be born. I have made so many quilts I think I could have a One Woman Show without all the ones I also have given away. I have been quilting since. . . I was in my early 20’s maybe? The first project I did was the “I love the Green Bay Packers” quilt. Sadly, it included LOTS of applique, which I still am not on friendly terms with. And as such, even though it was a gift for my sister, it is still in pieces in my home. :)
I have, since then, gotten MUCH better at finishing projects. In fact, I just completed baby quilt #4 – this one for my bosses baby.

I sewed my first quilt before there were any quilt shops like there are today. 1977 I wandered into a boutique shop and saw a Double Irish chain hanging on the wall, fell in love with it and went home and tried to copy it. My first attempts at quilting were pathetic. Then I got some library books and tried to learn quilting that way. And then came Eleanor Burns with her Strip Quilting and the rest is history. I have learned a lot in my quilting journey. I think I learned the most in a small class near Durango Co. The instructor was a prize winning quilter having won many awards for her quilts. I learned some really incredible techniques that changed how I sew my blocks together and how to make my quilts judge competition worthy. However, I still lack the confidence, thinking my quilts aren’t good enough to enter any competitions, but after having watched judges at the county fair, I know my quilts are totally worthy. I love quilting, I couldn’t live without a pile of fabric, my sewing machines and a bunch of threads.,

I have been quilting and sewing since I was a child. My earliest memories are of being on the floor while moma sewed on her machine and me and my brother and 2 sisters all had hand needles in the scrap pile making or doll clothes and quilts or blankets. A lot of fun those days were. When my biggest issue in life was trying to sew straight and then getting my own machine at age 10.. I thought I was something special getting that machine. I was the only one mother ever gifted with a machine. Because I was the one that sewed and sewed and never tired of it.

One of the things I love about looking at your blog and other bloggers is how very different the same quilt pattern looks based on a persons choice of fabrics. It never ceases to amaze me how beautiful all the different quilts look and yet so different using the same pattern.

I made much first quilt 41 years ago before my first daughter was born. I looked at a magazine and made my own pattern and appliqued animals on the quilt by hand. It was all done out of gingham and I sewed it together by hand without a binding and hand quilted it with regular thread. I still have it! Needless to say I have improved a lot since then!

Wow – sew beautiful quilts and very talented artist. I’ve been sewing for 40 years but about 20 years ago, while stationed in Germany, I attended a class that one of the spouses put together. It was a beginner quilting class and we made a small-ish schoolhouse wall hanging which I hung in every house where ever we lived. I fell in love with quilting. The wall hanging was my inspiration to one day make a “real” quilt :) Now my husband is retired from the military so we are no longer moving every couple of years AND our children are grown. Sew I have started to convert one of their bedrooms into a true sewing room where I can work on larger projects (instead of just the dinning table which had to be cleared of sewing projects daily for dinner). In the last three years I helped piece several quilt tops and am learning to use modern-day quilting tools and techniques. Taught my daughter and daughter-in-law how to sew along with any quilting techniques I’ve learned and my DIL already made a baby quilt ON HER OWN!!! Gotta pass the love of sewing down to the next generation!!! Happy they became sew interested!

Started in the 1970’s but quit as my former Mother-in-law was a wonderful quilter and made quilts for everyone. About 7 years ago, our prayer group decided to start a monthly quilt group, as a ministry. Within a meeting or two, we expanded to weekly meetings, retreats, and shop hops thanks to our hostess, Dixie. We call ourselves the Upper Room Quilters and there are 6-10 of us who regularly attend. Not only do we quilt for ourselves and our gifts, we’ve made many donation quilts and other items like pillowcase dresses for Haiti, filled toiletry bags for tornado victims, lap quilts for wheelchair bound Vets, hats for Mexico, etc. Our favorite charity is Carenet Pregnancy Center, where we donate about a dozen baby quilts each year.

I have been sewing since I was about 9 years old, but I took up quilting a few years ago when I took a beginning quilting class with my daughter-in-law. It was way more advanced than beginner level so I was “lost” most of the time and got VERY behind….never finished the quilt but it is still here and I WILL finish it some day. It is a civil war quilt. WHAT was I thinking. I even suggested to the instructor that they raise the level of the class standing….LOL I’ve been doing smaller stuff since then. I would love to have a chance to win all these goodies…since hubby says I spend too much on quilt stuff already. LOL Have a GREAT Christmas.

My sweet Mom-in-law got me started about 12 years ago, and now I’m totally addicted!! Not that I ever quite finished the sampler quilt she first got me started on, but I’ve done loads of other ones in the meantime! LOL My DD has gotten a much earlier start – at age 11, she already has 2 finished quilts under her belt!

I retired 6 years ago, and wondered what is next? I didn’t know what “I” wanted to do. The children were raised, my husband said to do something for yourself, but I didn’t know what exactly that was until I discovered quilting. I’ve always wanted to do stained glass, and discovered working with fabric is my stained glass. Quilt shops were filled with stained glass designs in fabric. Now thanks to Maggie’s First Dance, I have learned so much. Thank you

You have got to be kidding. My chances of winning 0. Well I will try anyway just like all the thousands before,e. I have been quilting for about 10 years. I waited until I retired. I also started to teach my 9 year old granddaughter how to sew and one of the first project was a patchwork quilt. I can’t wait until Christmas break and we can sew together. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

I started quilting around 1975. No rotary cutters or plastic templates or fabric cutters. Machine quilting was in it’s infancy. It wasn’t really accepted in quilt shows. I’ve seen a lot of changes and feel quilting has really evolved into so many more things than just traditional quilts. I love all types of quits. Thanks so much for your website.

Hi Jacquelynne… I began with patchwork about 10 years ago but I did not have the time to sew as much as I wanted so I consider I’m recalling “producing” since 5 years… Sometimes I would like to begin sooner, hahaha… It was amazing to participate in this BOM which it was my very first… I really enjoyed it… I still have to put the last border because I was not very sure about the color and the fabric but yesterday I found the perfect one so I hope to finish it in these days…
Thank you very much for this BOM.. I can not wait to see the 2017’s one… huhuhuhu…
