My friend Pat Sloan is releasing a brand new book, called Holiday Celebrations! And it is simply a-dorable! I know you will love all of the projects in it. When we got our “advance” copy here in the studio, we all oohhhed and ahhhed over it, trying to decide which project to make first! As the title says, these are projects meant for CELEBRATING, every holiday and season of the year!
**** Keep reading, because I’ve got
1) a FREE fabric panel for those who purchase Pat’s book from my online shop
2) a couple of giveaways,
3) AND the opportunity to take a FREE Creativity & Ornament Workshop with me! ****
The project from the book that I made was the Welcome Home wall hanging- because I love houses AND applique, so it was the perfect project for me. For machine applique, I like Thermoweb’s Heat n Bond Lite.
To add more interest to my project, I played with a pieced background, and I added free-motion details to the windows. Also, to save time, I combined my machine applique and quilting into one step- I layered my top with my batting and backing fabric, then did my machine applique. That way, the applique also acts as quilting. These are all techniques that we frequently use in The Art of Home Club, my fun monthly membership! Click here for more information!
And don’t you love my little wire hanger? It’s so easy to display any little quilt this way, and you don’t have to add a hanging sleeve! I even use mine to display mug rugs and turn them into mini wall hangings. You can find the wire hanger in 2 sizes, and also the hanging clips, in my online shop.
My sample maker Danny loved the Spooky Twist design from the book, and wanted to give it a go! She made a smaller version, and used a Moda Yuletide Grunge fat quarter bundle. This design is so versatile, you could use any colors or fabric and switch it out for the seasons!
Here’s the original from the book-
And here’s Danny’s version-
Then, she also made the Chubby Carrots table runner- too cute!! For this, she used a Moda Bella Greens fat quarter bundle to make the scrappy checkerboard center.
SOLD OUT!! ++Purchase the book from my online shop this week only, and get a free gift!++
Copies of this book are now SOLD OUT in our online shop! Thank you!
You can still find copies over at The Fat Quarter Shop. Click here.

I have much for other fall/winter seasons but am trying to even out the spring and summer items by making more for them now. I like decorating with items I have made!
It must be fall since I have so many quilted items for that season.
I love autumn best. I was born on Labor Day, and September has always been my favorite month because it’s the unofficial beginning of the “holiday season” and a glorious end to oppressive summer heat. There are few things as pretty as the vibrant colors throughout New England/Upstate New York during the fall, and I get very excited about the scarecrows, the pumpkin patches, and the cornucopias that are about to appear. When I sew for autumn and bring all those warm, wonderful colors into my home, I get to enjoy the rewards for three solid months every year!! (Confession: I keep my autumn decorations where I can easily get to them so I can sneak a peek all year long! It always produces a little happy dance!)
I like making quilts for all the holidays but even more I like doing birthday quilts.
I like Spring the best because it is nice to see everything get green after the winter snow.
I try to have something for all seasons, so right now I am making items in a patriotic theme. I often make 2 so I can take one to brighten up my mom’s room at her nursing home.
Spring and fall are my favorite seasons. They both come packed with vibrant colors.
I love making things for each season, but Christmas is my favorite.
I love to make quilts things for Christmas, thank you for the gift away.
I love making quilts for Christmas because it is my favorite time of year!
I do a lot of quilting during summer, when we have so much late evening light in which to sew, but so much of what I’m making is intended for winter/holiday gifting so it often has a wintry/Christmasy or Hanukkah theme. How’s that for a mixed answer? :)
I love the 4th of July holiday the most and I love making patriotic quilts.
Just signed up for the Ornament Making Workshop, I can’t wait to get started.
I love all the seasons, but I think fall is my favorite. This book has a ton of cute projects!

My favorite holiday to make/quilt for is Christmas. I love making gifts for the family.
Spring! I love the green awakening of the landscape from the Winter greys and all the pretty spots of color as flowers begin to bloom.
I love fall colors! Christmas is always fun.
I probably ENJOY sewing Valentine’s Day projects most, but I’ve probably made many more Christmas and Halloween-themed projects.

Most recently, I completed a quilt that I made for a college freshman, so I am going to say fall is my favorite!
I enjoy sewing and quilting for the Christmas season. They make the house so festive!
I guess spring/summer would be my choice as I prefer pastels and floral projects and that is my favorite time of the year. Although, I do love Christmas time I tend to make very few projects that can’t be used year round.
Easter and Spring. Those last few months are more bearable when making Spring bunnies and flowers.
Nothing can beat Halloween!!!!! So many fun things to do!
I like to collect Halloween fabric and since I’m a pretty new quilter, I don’t have a project made yet. I do have several patterns though and hope to start one in August.
You’re a smart cookie to add the Embroidery to the project after adding the batting and backing. Cute Flag, just in time for Flag day this month. I love anything patriotic! Summer is full of patriotic Celebrations at my house. Thanks for the giveaway.

Christmas is my favorite. The first one where our daughter wasn’t home for the holidays was tough. My husband and I work hard to make it enjoyable for the two of us. Putting out decorations, including a Christmas quilt I made for him, is important to me.
Which holiday to start first is the question
Halloween is my favorite!
I love spring. Sunshine and flowers!
Christmas is generally the holiday when I do anything creative. But I love spring colors and would like to start doing more for Easter/Springtime. Getting closer to retirement and will start doing something for all the holidays then. Can’t wait!
Autumn is my favourite season – for quilting, garden harvesting, the colour palette, for the end of the summer heat.
Christmas Christmas Christmas !!! Well, winter in general, really. I love Christmas, but snowflakes, snowmen, trees covered in snow, warm fires, …. Love it all! (And yes, I do shovel my own Michigan driveway :) )
I love Halloween quilts, but tend to do more Christmas quilts all year round.
One of my favorite holidays is 4th of July. It is just such a fun time gathering with family and friends, having great BBQ and of course fireworks! Who does not love fireworks? My mom instilled in all her kids a great love for the 4th! And one of my brothers was born on the 4th of July. So needless to say, my favorite quilts to make are patriotic quilts. I started quilting in 2015 when I got laid off from my job and then semi retired. So far I have completed 6 patriotic quilts and yes, the first one I completed was gifted to my mom. My first project out of Holiday Celebrations would have to be the patriotic one on book cover.
Good to know you and Pat are friends. I follow you both!
I love creating quilts for all the holidays, but I guess my favorite would be 4th of July.
I love holidays…. if I had to pick a favorite it would be Christmas. My next wall hanging I’m planning is for Halloween. Hope you are enjoying your day!!
I love both summer and winter projects, but Christmas quilts most of all. Enjoyed viewing your projects too.
Fall is my favorite season although I love making Projects to give away at Christmas. I love the little wall hanging you made but would have to substitute my indigenous flag for the Patriotic one. Love your tutorials but need to get my sewing mojo back and start staying home and allow my sister to learn how to be on her own since her husband past last fall.
Christmas of course. So many options for quilts. I love the fall season but it seems to always arrive so quickly. I am finding that the 12 1/2 ” hanging quilts are much easier to do for seasonal variety and I can either quilt or applique or embroider.
My favorite holiday to sew for is Christmas
I like all the holidays but I think Christmas is my favorite. At least I have 3 Christmas quilts.
I love birthday celebrations. I make a tiny quilt with a personal theme the recipient enjoys. The quilts are 4″ x 6″ or 5″ x 7″. I adhere the tiny quilt to a blank card, then add a Happy Birthday and some Xs and Os inside the card. It’s fun to surprise someone on their special day.
