Recently I participated in the Teal Mini Swap to benefit Ovarian Cancer– for a small fee, you got to participate in the swap, and money was donated to fund Ovarian Cancer Research. What an excellent cause! I enjoyed working on this little project!
My swap partner was Cindy from Washington. She said that she “loves clear colors. Blues are my fav…. Love modern fabrics best…. Love scrappy. Bits of handwork (embroidery, quilting) put everything over the top!” So, choosing the colors was the easy part! Obviously, it had to contain teal (you get a small piece of the teal fabric as a participant, then you add whatever you want.) And then, adding more blues was easy- I love this soothing monochromatic palette, don’t you?
And, since Cindy is fond of embroidery, I added a bit of that as well. I added some embroidered flowers to “frame” the heart, and also added a running stitch along the inside border of the heart.
I also added a few randomly placed embroidered flowers in the little 1″ squares on the border:
For quilting, I just kept it simple. By the way, this is a 6″ x 9″ mug rug, so it was pretty quick!
You may recognize this pattern- last year I shared a Valentine’s Day Mug Rug Pattern, done in pinks….

If you’d like to add the embroidery, click here for a PDF of the embroidery patterns.
And yes, this was a SWAP, so let me show you what Cindy sent to me!
Isn’t it just TOO cute!!!! I love this little guy! The swap is an annual event, so be on the look out for registration next August. It is hosted by Beth at EvaPaige Quilt Designs!
Coming Soon– Thursday, November 3 is the day that my Splendid Sampler block gets revealed (finally! I worked on it a whole year ago and I will finally get to show it to you!) So remember to stop back on the 3rd to see it and get the pattern. Find out all about the Splendid Sampler here.

So excited that your block will be out soon, your style is so beautiful! But confused as to how it can possible be November soon!???! Eeeks ?. Have a wonderful day and thank you for your creativity and lovely new letter, enjoy??????.
Those mini swap mug mats are so beautiful! You and your swap mate did perfect stitchery. I’m soooo jealous, I can hardly sew a straight line let alone a mini one. Do you have a tutorial on how to make squared corners? I finished a small wall hanging and my corners came out rounded and they should have been squared. Waaaaaaa!
Love your Teal Mini Swaps, both the one you sent and the one you received! I participated too and it was so much fun and what a great cause to create for! It was my first year but definitely not my last!
Marsha
Do you have a finishing section to Maggie’s First Dance? Just wondering. I can look at the picture and figure it out, but I wondered if I am getting ahead of you all.
Finishing instructions come out on November 7th!
Jacquelynne, I am having trouble finding where to download your sweet little mug rug (Teal Mini Embroidered one). Love it.
I have been quilting for only a year and Maggie’s First Dance was my first BOM.
Hi Jacquelynne, Your designs are just so cute. I made the pink heart mug rug for my sister along with a cute mug I found with her initial on it to “match.” She loved it. Thanks for all you share!
So glad to know you support Ovarian Cancer Org. I’m a 12 yr survivor. Your mug rugs are beautiful.
No matter what I do I can’t get my free patterns. I need help in getting them.
