Our latest Collection for The Art of Home Club is called Turkey Time, and it contains instructions to make a quilt, an “interactive” wall hanging, and bonus handprint turkey towels! What a great turkey quilt to make for Thanksgiving! Also included are 7 different applique and 7 hand embroidery patterns- That’s right- it’s an entire collection of designs and projects that you can mix and match and have a lot of fun with!
This is a very scrappy quilt- let’s talk about palette! I know that a lot of us equate an “autumn” quilt with dark browns, reds and oranges, but I’ve used some brighter, more fun colors in this quilt which still “feel” like fall but are a little unexpected. If you are up for a little challenge, I encourage you to go out of your “color comfort zone” for this project!
Normally, we make an appliqued or embroidered square/rectangle, and then build the block and/or project around it. However, this month for the quilt and wall hanging, will piece the blocks first, and then add our applique/embroidery designs so they extend into the pieced part of the block. I think this is a fun and interesting way to make our blocks!
For the wall hanging- You will notice that the turkey on our wall hanging does not have tail feathers. That’s because we are going to add them on Thanksgiving day! The collection includes feather designs that you can print & cut out. Have everyone write something they are grateful for on a feather and then use pins to tack them to your turkey. I think it’s both a fun and meaningful Thanksgiving activity.
Finally- the fall and Thanksgiving themed designs will add such warmth to your home when used for other decor items such as place mats, table runners and pillows. Be sure to read the Tips & Ideas file for more ideas!! (Our Club collections always give you LOTS of ideas for using the patterns and designs!!!)
