A few months ago, we visited the world famous Philadelphia Flower Show. The theme this year was art, which means that a lot of the displays were just plain… weird…
However, we also walked away with some good, unique garden decor ideas. I liked the ideas in this Urban Garden display:

Bottle Edging along the walk way- maybe not a safe idea if you have kids around, but I like the way it looks.

“Characters” painted on random-height garden picket fencing. You could paint each one with a different family member and/or neighbor!

Tires make little flower beds along the roof line of a building.
Scrap wood and lumber make a neat background for a garden. You don’t have to do a whole fence, but a small section would make the garden more interesting:
We saw lots of fun and interesting ways to create edging around a bed:

Horizontal logs- this garden had a “Pacific northwest” feel to it…

Upright logs in a row- can double as seating for entertaining in your yard.

Bundled branches form a natural edging. I really like the way this looks.
If you have an old piece of furniture ready for the landfill, consider using it as a very unique planter and creating an “outdoor room”:
If you have welding skills, found objects and junk make a really interesting garden sculpture:
But of course, anyone could create this simple sculpture by placing branches, cut sides up, in the ground in an interesting arrangement. And, oh, yeah, it would be FREE!
I hope you found some interesting ideas here that you can use in your own garden and yard. What was your favorite thing? Do you have some unique garden decor at your home? Let us know!
I love the bottle edging for the garden, although I do agree this wouldn’t be too safe with kids around. I wonder if you filled it up with dirt if it would be less likely to break during a heavy storm. I really want to try this out for my garden some day, I just don’t know if kids are in my future, so I’ll hold off on the idea for awhile.
I really love the idea of paining characters on a picket fence. It seems like it would be a great activity to do as a family, or even for a get together. I’m a bit interested in learning what else people have painted in their garden, and how it adds to their unique design.
