What I did over my Christmas vacation…

I took a loooong break over the Christmas holidays- about 2 1/2 weeks! I did a little work here and there- a quick check-in on email and Facebook, a little sketching… but that’s about it. There was a lot of lazing about, lol!! My daughter left for her 3 1/2 month semester in England last Tuesday, so I took full advantage of the 2 1/2 weeks that she was home for her Christmas break. There was Christmas shopping, post-Christmas shopping (have to use those gift cards!), lunches, coffee, and book store browsing.

We of course, had to get a little creative as well, ’cause that’s what we do here! My daughter made this project while she was home:

She embroidered the bee onto some hand-dyed wool, and used it for the cover of a book which she hand made and bound (she took a book making course at college a couple of semesters ago!) Isn’t it beautiful?? She took it to England with her to record her adventures!

Christmas eve we went to church, and then went to my daughter and son-in-law’s apartment for snacks and movies. Christmas day, the extended family came to our house for dinner- I made Chicken Marsala for the first time and it was delicious! Made it up 2 days beforehand, put it in a large baking dish, then just had to pop it in the oven 40 minutes to heat through for dinner. The day after Christmas, we did NOTHING, lol! Stayed in our pajamas until about 3 pm, read the books and watched the movies we had received for Christmas gifts. And, of course, had leftover Chicken Marsala for dinner! Which was fine with me- because it meant that I didn’t have to cook.

New Year’s Eve was fun- we just hung out with the kids, played games, and my daughter and son-in-law stayed over so we could all hang out in our pj’s and have a big breakfast together on New Year’s Day (are you finding a theme here??) It was one of my very favorite memories of the 2015 holiday season.

We have been enjoying the final season of Downton Abbey (although, I think I will say that season 3 was probably my favorite.) I can’t wait to see how they wrap it all up. I hope Lady Edith finds happiness! I really like her, I think she is so strong- while Mary is beautiful, she is so self-centered!! And how about Hughes and Carson, getting married at last!! I look forward to that. I am seeing Tom in the photos for this season- I will be really happy if they bring him back for the finale.

AND- are there any Sherlock fans out there??? We LOVE LOVE LOVE this show! Can’t get enough of it- I wish they made more episodes! We had just one episode this year (although each episode IS like a full length feature film) and now we have to wait an entire year for more! But I will wait, and watch my DVDs of previous seasons.

Instagram did a compilation of my top 9 photos for 2015- it’s a really fun way to look back on the year:

I did get SOMETHING productive done over the holiday- I cleaned my office!! It started with “just” one corner, and then once I got that done, I thought I might as well work on another… and before you knew it I was cleaning out file cabinets and every single table/desk surface. I dug down to the bottom of piles of papers and found stuff from 2012 on my desk!!!! Everything went into file folders and got organized- I really feel ready to tackle 2016 now! Amazing how much your environment can affect your mind and attitude. Clear desk = clear mind!

What about you? What did you do over the holidays? Are you ready to take on 2016??

You certainly kept yourself busy, Jacquelynne. I don’t know when the new season of Downton Abbey will be shown here in Australia. But I’m looking forward to it. It always feels good when you have a big clean up!

Looks great, but I don’t think you have enough pens on your desk. I love pens too.

Loved the visit hearing about your Christmas. Exciting about your daughter – I hope she enjoys this time :-) Have you seen the Sherlock Holmes movie with Ian McKellan as “Mr. Holmes”? It’s when Sherlock is in his older years – a wonderful heart-felt movie for family viewing. No one could have done this better. ( If you recall Ian McKellan was Gandolf in the Hobbit. ) I got a brand new movie we can watch whenever for just a fraction from Amazon.
I got my cataracts taken care of in Nov and I can now do hand work again! I found a piece of cross-stitch I had started … and my first sewing customer in several months. Woo Hoo!!

Yes we saw the Ian McKellan movie last summer, though it was difficult to find, a lot of theaters weren’t playing it. I guess because it’s not an action movie- Hollywood seems to think that people only want to see action and superhero movies!!!
So glad you are back to doing what you love! Have fun!

Looks like you had a great holiday. The book your daughter made is beautiful I have always thought it would be fun to take a class on bookmaking. Downton Abbey is one of my favorite shows and so is Sherlock Holmes. I am waiting to watch Sherlock until my daughter can come over and watch it with me. Maybe this weekend since we are going to have nothing but rain.

The holidays are over and it is good when you can have a longer time to relax. Our Christmas and new year were so very nice this year. Our son came back home from Chicago (we live inScotland) and as our other son lives and works in Newcastle (England) and he was working on Xmas day, we spent our Christmas there. We stayed in a beautiful holiday cottage and had Xmas lunch at our sons’ Girlfriends parents house, really nice! We had fun watching the Christmas episode ofSherlock and Call the Midwife ( I believe that’s really popular overseas too). Have watched the final season of Downton Abbey (will accept pressies not to add any spoilers here lol)…

Love your quilts. Do you have any for sale and if you do, how do I get them on line?

Hi Peggy- no I do not sell my quilts. If I added up the materials and time involved to make them, I’m afraid they’d be extremely pricey. I do sell the patterns to make them.
