Wonky I Love Home House Block!

Last week, I was doing some work on my website and realized that I have a Wonky House Block tutorial…. and then I thought about the I Love Home BOM that we’re working on right now… and then I had a crazy idea to combine the two! (Yes, I know- I really live on the edge, lol.)

So, in addition to the applique, embroidery, and just piecing instructions found in the BOM pattern, you now have a FOURTH option for making the I Love Home quilt (gee, I wish I had thought of this sooner!!)

(If you need the pattern for the BOM, please sign up here to have the patterns delivered to your inbox. If you have trouble, please email me at comments@jacquelynnesteves.com  Please DO NOT leave a comment on this post saying that you are having trouble- your comment will be deleted and you will not receive a reply. Thank you!!)

The original Wonky House Block tutorial makes a 12″ finished size block. For our I Love Home BOM blocks, we need an 8″ finished size center square. So, one our fabulous The Art of Home Club members, Marion K., offered to help me resize the Wonky House block. Thanks sooo much, Marion!!

I’m not going to re-write the tutorial here, all of the instructions and diagrams can be found in the original blog post. But I’ll post the fabrics here, and I’ll add the new sizes for the 8″ block to the original tutorial for easy reference.

To make an 8″ finished Wonky House block, you will need:

  • *White (for background)- (2) 2 1/2″ x 5 1/4″
  •                                          (1) 5″ x 12″
  • *Dark fabric for roof- (1) 3 1/2″ x 7″
  • *Scraps and strips of assorted fabrics, about 1 1/2″ – 2″ wide
  • *”Starter” square for center of house- about 2″

Piece the scraps together until you have a unit about 5 1/2″ x 6″. Then trim your pieced house to 5″ x 5 1/4″.  Follow the tutorial to make the roof and finish the house. Trim the finished block to 8 1/2″.

Again, just follow the instructions found here in the original post.

You can also download a PDF TUTORIAL FOR THE 8″ BLOCK here.

I really enjoyed making these Wonky House blocks, I forgot how fun they are. So now, I will probably have THREE versions of this quilt! The original applique version:

The embroidered version:

And now, the Wonky version:

I love every single one! How about you? Which technique are you currently using for the BOM, and will you try to do a “wonky” version??

Үou actually make іt seem so easy with your presentation but I find this matter to be realⅼу something which І think І would never understand.
It seems too ϲomplicated and very broad for me.
I’m looking forward for your next post, I’ll try to get the hang of іt!

I am tickled at the idea of different house styles! Thank you for the 8 inch version of the wonky house. I always love your designs and I am excited about this BOM. I appreciate your generosity, Jackie.
